"Bootleg
Blues" Official CD was recorded live in studio
"Soundtrack" in Belgrade in summer 2002
(with one track recorded live in club "Kuglaš"
in April 2002 in Belgrade).
The CD was released on February 1st for "Round
Records"
The concert promotion of the CD started in Belgrade
on February 1st 2003 in "Dom Omladine".
Since then we've held concert promotions in cities
and the media all over Yugoslavia. In May 2003, the
CD was promoted on the number one radio station in
Israel "Kol Ha Derech 88FM".
"Bootleg Blues" CD received excellent critics
from the public and the media in Yugoslavia and Israel.
Tracks from the CD are included on "Play lists"
of various Yugoslav radio stations
We've
intended to make this CD sound contemporary and new,
but at the same time close to the "roots".
We also intended to show variety and make this album
attractive not only for strictly blues audience
We hope we succeeded.
We
are often asked why we didn't include source material
on the CD
Many blues standards exist and live for almost 100
years and they still sound as fresh as they did back
then. Keeping that in mind, we felt that on our first
release, it was important to show respect to musicians
and tunes that we've admired.
Never the less, we are currently preparing material
for our next CD that will include blues standards
but also source material.
Guest artists
We've
always admired the singing skills of the sisters Tijana
and Bojana Stamenov (young but excellent blues
duet in which they both sing and play guitars - we
believe they will be a big success) and on some occasions
we had the privilege to perform together.
It was a natural choice to ask them to join us for
the recording of "Nobody's fault but mine".
Luckily, they accepted.
We went to the studio, set the microphones and recorded
it (without even rehearsing.)
We didn't need to listen to the recording. We knew
that it was good.
We've
enjoyed listening to Rade Popović's guitar playing
since the time he played in "Hush" with
Ana Popović.We allways believed him to be one of the
best electric guitar players in Yugoslavia, or at
least, one of the guitar player with the best feeling
and understending for blues.
At the time we traveled together to his gig in Novi
Sad, we had allready recorded the acoustic version
of Donovan's "Season Of The Witch"
and played the raw recording from the tape in the
car. Rade was moved by the song and proposed to record
an electric guitar solo. Who refuses that kind of
offer!
When we came back to Belgrade we went to the studio
and recorded a new, totally different version of the
song.
It couldn't get any better than that
